Default backup camera

The dealer installed camera interfaces with the display and when you turn the steering wheel, the lines behind the wheels show the path of the car. I like that idea, especially when turning into a parallel parking space.

All cameras seem to show the regular straight lines, but is the "turning" technology inherent to the camera or the Volvo RTI unit? I am considering an aftermarket box that will allow me to connect a camera or any video input to the installed display.

I have a 2012 S60 T5.

It would make the most sense for it to be something within the steering column, some sort of computer sensor and is displayed on the in-dash nav. The camera wouldn't inherently know how far you've turned the steering wheel. Whether or not that particular RTI is necessary to view that image, I don't know. But my guess is yes.

Hi,
I received a backup camera from my son to be istalled into my s60 (2011). I have an original color monitor in the car, mechanic gearbox. Does somebody know what to do? Do I need extras or to connect it simply with its own wires?
Georg
