Default cabin gremlins

Volvo S60 T20 automatic, 2002 with 115,000 miles covered. Service history unknown.

Hi Guys,
to add to my ongoing transmission woes, I have a couple of minor electrical issues. Though this won't stop the planet revolving they are irritating never the less. Firstly the steering wheel radio/stereo controls aren't working and while the afore mentioned Stereo works well, there is no illumination of said device (would be useful now that the nights are closing in).. These might be connected or maybe just a coincidence. And yes I have checked the fuses, all okay.
I am determined to sort this Volvo vehicle out if I can, partly because I like it and partly just to see if
it will be as rewarding to own as my twenty years of Mercedes custodianship were.

Hmmm I have no answers but a similar issue, wondering if you figured it out.

My transmission in my 2002 XC70 needed to be replaced and shortly after I got it back, the radio dial stopped illuminating. I can only see it in the daytime when the sun is hitting it just right. Fuses are fine, not getting any codes besides one for the SRS Airbag, which went on when I got the car back and was due to a bad battery, just have not had it turned off yet.
