A/C Compressor Growling
Hello, Anyone ever had a growling noice come from the engine compartment? took it to the shop and first they said it was the tensioner then they figured out it was the A/C compressor. how long do i have before this thing siezes up on me and am stuck on the the side of the raod waiting for the tow truck? is this a big job to change out myself? looks pretty tight down there. got a quote from the sho p they said around $1500. is that about right? Also if i change it out myself is it hard to refill the freon and get it going again from new?
Thanks!
Thanks!

The compressor is not that bad to replace.
Here is what I would do. Talk to a local shop about removing the freon and filling it after you make the repair.(This way you know there is a proper amount of Freon in there)
Then replace the compressor.
The easiest way to replace the compressor is to pull the cooling fan and then you can remove the compressor from the top.
The compressor might last one day or a month you never know.
