Default Coolant Flush v. Drain

I want to DIY coolant change on my 2004 S60. Recommendation please on how to do a coolant system "flush" instead of just a drain. I know just draining the coolant from the radiator will not get all the old stuff out..........do I need to buy one of those little Preston kits that you hook up to heater hoses or is there some other technique that works well without having to buy a kit?

You can remove the thermostat and bolt the cover back on and use a garden hose and fill the bottle and let it drain out the bottom of the radiator.
