Default pricing for software upgrade?

So i have read if you have a problem with an S60 where the transmission will slip occassionaly and the RPM's will go crazy and that you should take it to a dealer have them do a software upgrade. Anyone whon has done this, how much does this usually cost, will it vary depending on my location?

Are you out of warranty? If not, it'll be free.

If so, I'd expect to pay $200-300 based on what I hear it costs with other cars. As with any repair, it'll vary from dealer to dealer.

Software typically runs about $35.00 U.S. with about 1/2 and hour for labor. Atleast that's what my dealer charges.

Have you considered a full system reset which is FREE ..just remove battery overnight and let car re-learn again..usually in Uk dealers upgrade software each time car is in for service

This is much more reasonable than I've heard for other cars.

The software upgrade will not fix the "shift flare" and the delayed "drive" engagement. This is the valve body in the transmission that is defective. The earlier design was flawed and Volvo (Aisin Warner) has since come out with a redesign. The part is about $900.00 and labour is about 4 hours. Do a search on this forum. I have pictures posted of the 2 different valve bodies.
The software upgrade does need to be done with the new valve body install so try it first, but you most likely need this repair as well.
