03 S60 T5 timing belt changing
Hi S60 enthusiasts,
I just changed timing belt kit and serpentine belt in my 03 S60 T5 with 181k kms. I bought it used with 135k and don't know if timing belt has been changed - I assume it was not, because Volvo recommends changing timing belt after 170k. Well as you can see the belt looked very good, almost like new. It was an original Volvo belt.
Also I found that a new tensioner was little different than original - as you can see, well...I put it in anyway, set tension in the middle ( It was about 20C), tightened and works OK. Also serpentine belt looked like new but, I changed it anyway.
It took me all about 4 hours to do the job, wrapping new belt around crankshaft timing belt pulley being the most time consuming part...hahaha. I didn't remove crankshaft serpentine belt pulley. Also - it took me three attempts to align perfectly marks on camshafts sprockets with the cover - easy and fast to correct, but - very important !( Sprocket on the left side being always lazy...haha)
Well...I would do next timing belt change in 2 hours for sure. I don't expect to do it again tho...unless water pump starts leaking....
I think my post will help somebody...

Update - after few days: the same evening I change the timing belt , check engine light went off, I checked: P0016, that means: Crankshaft position/camshaft position, bank 1 sensor A -correlation. It looks like I must have wrongly aligned the belt. So today I tried to correct it - it is easy - just to remove two timing belt covers and the right wheel. I even brought an extra powerful flashlight and small mirror to see all marks. I found finally marks on crankshaft pulley ( two marks on two teethes)and a small dot on engine body for alignment AND my marks on both sprockets were perfect!!! I double even triple checked it. I am puzzled now. After 3rd start "Check engine" went off again. Also worth to add - I didn't notice any loss of performance whatsoever, still the same 250HP I love!
So what is going on? Sensor? Also - the first time after belt changing the "check engine" light went off after I filled gas into almost empty tank. But gas as a problem? Doesn't make any sense.
Any ideas?
