2013 volvo s60 t5 engine cold start
I just bought a 2013 volvo s60 t5 about two weeks ago. When I started the engine in a cold morning, the engine misfires and rumbles for about 5 to 10 seconds.
I brought the car to a volvo dealer, they did all the testings and did not find anything wrong. they contacted volvo support and was suggested to upgrade ECM software 36004-2.3. but the problem still exists after the software upgrade.
Does anyone has any insights?

Me Too
I also just purchased a 2013 Volvo T5 3 weeks ago and have the same exact problem when starting in the mornings every now and then. I don't think it has to do with the cold because I live in South Florida. But I have the exact same problem and have not brought it to my dealer yet. Anyone else having these issues?

I purchased a 2013 S60 T5 about 30 days ago, I now have 850 miles on the clock, the first time this happened to me was about 700 miles, same thing, sputters, try's to catch but won't fire, for about 5 seconds or so, then starts and seems to run fine. I tryed to video this problem with my iphone this morning to show the dealer, but guess what? The audio on my iphone will not record due to the "pairing" of the phone and car, so I got video but no sound gggeeeezzz! So, I un-paired my phone, audio now works and I will try agin in the monring. It may not happen for several days :-(

I'm having the same issues. I took it in once and they did a software upgrade. The issue still isn't fixed. I'm taking it in again tonight. I only have problems starting in the morning. I live in texas so the "cold" isn't the issue. It has problems starting only when it sits over night.
Has your problem been fixed?

S60 T5 cold start issue
I have the same problem - less than 400 miles and at least 3 times a week the engine won't start right away when it has been sitting overnight. Doesn't matter what temp. I am taking it to the dealership this week. I read in another Volvo forum that the culprit was a bad fuel pump - once replaced the problem went away. I'll post again later if my car is corrected in the same way.

I had the same problem on 2 of the 2013 S60 T5 AWD cars that we had this year (long story). I took the first one to the dealer and they thought it was the fuel pump but I never got a chance to see if the fuel pump fixed it. The second one had the same issue, but since the chassis numbers are 25,000 vehicles a part, I couldn't believe it was the fuel pump. I set out in search of an answer and this is what I found:
The daily commute for the car is 120-125 miles, which means it needs gas every 3 days, and the tank is always below 1/4 full and sometimes the light is on when I fill it. I read on Consumer Reports that it is bad to run a car below 1/4 full because the gas acts as a coolant for the pump, and if the pump overheats the return valve in the pump that stops the fuel from draining back to the tank when the car is off can stick open, or close much slower. This would cause an extended crank, and rough initial idle while the engine waits for fuel to get from the tank to the engine. It also would not throw a CEL because the fuel pressure is good, its just waiting for the physical gasoline. I confirmed this with a European car mechanic, because we had a similar issue on an '09 A4.
For the last 4 months I have filled the car when it was about 3/8 full and have NOT had an issue. In fact several times I have had no choice but to let the car get below 1/4 (traffic, distance to gas station etc.) and I do not have an issue at all. It seems that the repeated emptying of the fuel tank caused it.
In case I'm wrong, and because filling up every other day is no fun, what are the chassis numbers of you guys having the problem? Mine is 2110** (1st) and 1855** (2nd). The chassis number is the last 6 of your (US) VIN. Maybe they are close together and it is a bad fuel pump batch that does not respond well to going below 1/4 tank.

I was able to have the dealer see the problem, and after hooking up a fuel gauge the car showed there was no residual pressure. They changed the fuel pump, because of a stuck triple valve, which is what I mentioned in previous posts. I will let everyone know if it works. Below are the parts replaced:

31274203-4 Lock Ring
31274049-1 O-Ring

Very well could be the fuel pump. Many of the early model s60's had the Fuel Pump recalled it was like 6 years later or something like that. If anyone has it it replaced make sure to hold onto the receipt and if you ever find out it is recalled later on then make sure you demand your money back.
