Buying a 2012 S60 - maintenance costs?
Hi, I'm considering buying a used 2012 S60 that has about 30k miles on it, they're asking for $15.5k.
They said all the maintenance was kept up with, but I don't really know much about cars and I don't want to overlook anything. I heard Volvos last a really long time but I also heard that they have high maintenance costs. Is that true? I've found maintenance estimates online for a 5 year period (~8k) but I don't know if that's more or less than the average or if costs will increase after the 5 year mark.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I bought a new 2012 S60 T5, Feb 2013. I have 67,300 miles on it. I do the recommended dealer service about every 7,500 miles. Cost is just below $ 800 at most intervals. Yes, Volvo is an expensive repair, but not more than Mercedes or Lexus. Probably more than a Toyota. To me, it's worth the price to drive a Volvo, and to put that in to perspective, I've been driving Volvo since 1979. A 1979 240; a 1988 740; a 1998 S70, and now the 2012 S60. The 740 wasn't a very good car but the others were great. DO NOT look at the S60 prior to 2012. Those had a turning radius issue; tires rubbed inside of the wheel wells. Hope this helps you.

$800 for a regular 7.5k service is absolutely insane.
Pre-2012 did not have turning radius problems. I am assuming you are referring to the P2 chassis, which ended in 2009. The 2011 S60 is the same chassis as the 2012.
The burning oil is for VIN code 62 for the engine. There is a recall changing the oil requirement to synthetic.
