This morning my car jumped as I put it into reverse and then again into drive. When I started to pull out of my driveway, it would not even make it up the hill (my driveway is very steep). It felt like it was in a high gear trying to go up the hill. My check engine light came on and all of my gauges, and other dashboard elements went dead. No message in the message box, no time on the clock, no reading in the odometer window.

Is this likely just a software issue that is causing all these problems? The car was running fine last night when I got home.

If it is the transmission, how much am I looking at to fix it?

 

In case anyone else has this issue:

The service center said this was a problem with the SEM and that an upgrade would fix it ($110). If it doesn't, I will have to replace the SEM which will cost $1075. Either way it's better than replacing the tranny like I thought was going to be necessary.

 

I have the same problem (s60 2,4 2003).
Have you made that upgade and did it help?

Also some times I get message "brakes failure stop safely", abs icon turns on, all dahbord items, air conditioner go dead.

All this happens not too frequently (even not every day).

Maybe someone else had same problems?
