RE: $459 Key and Remote
There was a place in Australia I think that was selling keys on ebay, I was looking for a second key for my sons 850. I haven't seen them on there for a while now. Somebody told me that a locksmith could make one. I'm going to check with the local one and see if he can do anything.

They do have chips in them. I tried to get a second, and I got the same quote. The 850s use keys that can be programmed by the car, and don't need to be specially made by the dealer. Some locksmiths can do transponder keys, but I doubt that they can make you a one for your car. Just go with 250 for the key, and skip the remote.

I looked into some remotes, and people will try to sell you used ones on ebay for cheap. Don't fall for it, I'm almost positive they can't be reprogrammed. I would have bought one, but according to the dealer I had to buy it from them...then again, that was the dealer. But like tech said, it needs to be new.

It is not the remote that is re-programmed. It is the car that is re-programmed. Any used remote should work as long as it is the right model for your car. The car anti theft computer is told what remote belongs to it. Any dealer can do it and they will gauge you at least and hour labour as it probably taked them close to 10 minutes to do. Keys can be cut by a reputable locksmiths. They can get the blank transponder keysas well but they are expensive.

You need to have the Pin#'s
Some use 12 some use 16 and others use more numbers from the remote to program it to the car.
When you buy a remote new the codes come with it. If they are lost then you will never get that remote programmed again.
Even when you would buy the car new the numbers would have been in the glovebox.

I just got an 02 S60 with one key and remote. I called my local volvo dealer and they quoted me $459 plus tax for a key and remote. I know they were serious but that is way more than my monthly payment. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
