My car is a:

2002 Volvo s60
Front wheel drive, without a turbo
250,000 _ miles

Here are the problems:

For a few days now the car has been having a really hard time starting, basically it turns over and over again without actually turning on, very similar to if it were out of gas. It has yet to start on me but it is really having issues, so when it turns on it ran fine but there was a very strong smell of fuel inside the car and today the car is not only having the same issues but is running really rough and the check engine light is on when it does turn on. I haven’t driven it at all since it started running rough and immediately set out to diagnose the problem.

From what I have gathered so far from this site is that I might have a fuel pump issue giving the starting issues and the smell of gas but I’m not completely sure. (I also recently found out about the fuel system/pump recall for this model year Volvo.) Now that it is running rough and the check engine light is on I’m sorta venturing into other possible problems, like a bad 02 sensor, fuel injectors, catalytic converter or maybe something else. Anyone have any ideas or advice; maybe have experienced the same problem? Is there an on board code retrieval option where a scanner tool is not needed; I know my truck spits out codes after I activate its self-diagnostic feature.

 

To update this thread hoping to help anyone else out there on this forum who might be experienceing the same issues; one of the coil packs had gone out causeing the car to run rough and the original cuprit was indeed the fuel pump and was repaired for free under the recall...

 

is there a certain time frame? Mine is a 2001.....

 

I don't believe there is any sort of time line. Our Volvo has over 240,000 miles on it and who knows how many previous owners. There is an eligibility contingent, just call a dealership and have them run your vin.. Good luck
