right rear axle locks up
Hey Volvo guys,
2004 S60R, 64,000 miles. When the car sits for a few days, 3 or 4, when I go to take off I feel a little tug. Feels like the brakes are a little stuck for a minute. Planned on having the brakes checked soon.
Today after the car sat for 7 days. I could not get the right rear axle to break loose. I jacked the car up and the brakes were fine, the wheel could turn about 1/8th of a turn, enough to let me know the brakes were not froven shut.
I kept jamming the car ahead and it finally broke free. What should I look at or service to prevent this from causing any more damage? I have one of those VADIS discs but I can't figure out how to use it. Should I check the oil in the rear transaxle or what? Any help at all will be a great start.
Thanks guys,
Joe B

RE: right rear axle locks up
Found out from another site, something about the brakes will stick when you sit for a long time and they were wet. Has anybody else ever heard of this? If so, what other brand of brake pads does anybody recommend instead of stock? This is stupid for a nice car like this to do this.

I would be careful about breaking it free like that before you have it checked out incase it is the AWD or a wheel bearing that's causing the trouble.
If it locks up again, you could remove the caliper/padsto see if thatfrees the wheel up. Just don't engage the brakes while it's off or you might pop the pistons out of the caliper.
