'02 S60 needs ring gear
148K on my '02. Getting metal shavings on the crank sensor causing starting problems. Shop says I need new ring gear and starter which requires pulling the tranny....$$$$
I've replaced ring gears on my old Chev 350. How involved is this for a DIY project???
Thanks!

With that mileage you'll have some shards on the pick-up. Unless you have gaps/missing teeth on the gear or other cranking issues, blow the shavings out of the bell housing and keep on going.
Otherwise, it's a major/expensive pain, R&R the flywheel and starter.
How do you get to the flywheel? Take a wild guess.
