whinning noise in engine compartment
I have a 2001 S60 2.4L with 72,000 miles on it about 2 months ago it started making a whinning noise in the engine compartment after the car was up to normal operating temperature you will notice that the noise gets louder when you shift it from parking to reverse with the brake on but it also does it when you take off.
Does anyone have an idea of what this could be could it be as simple as the drive belt being worn out? Thanks. Nic

RE: whinning noise in engine compartment
Thanks for answering, both the serp. and the timing belts look in good shape their not cracked I noticed that the noise stops at times also you can still hear it at 40 mph I took the serp. belt off and ran the engine 30 seconds or so and the noise stopped I also took some of the presure off of the pully but the noise was still their

RE: whinning noise in engine compartment
I have recently found out that when I remove the oil cap and the dipstick the car stops makeing the noise. When I take off the oil cap or the dipstick it sucks air through the openings and the noise goes away.
Comon guys I'm getting desperate somebody must know what this is!
