1998 S70 GLT Question that nobody from Volvo seems to know
I've got a 1998 S70 GLT that came without the advanced trip computer functions. I've read there is an upgrade that requires a software download from Volvo as well as the addition of the "info" switch and you've got the advanced trip computer. So basically, it exists already but it needs some software that only Volvo has inorder to be functional. Or at least that how the story goes. Does anybody know if this is true or not and if so, how much for the upgrade? Thanks

RE: 1998 S70 GLT Question that nobody from Volvo seems to know
Hey S70ESQUE,
I found out that it is very possible for a trip computer to be installed in a car that did not originally come with one. The drawback however, is that it has to be serviced by the dealer and thus, is very expensive. I looked into this as much as possible and from what I can tell, every S70 actually comes pre-installed with an advanced trip computer (look at your digital readout screen, the one with your clock, under bright light and you can actually see in the LCD the markings where the advanced computer readouts would be). In order to activate the trip computer though, the dealer actually just need to download some software to your car's existing computer (via the OBD-II connection tool) and then install the "info" switch so the driver can view the information. Unfortunately, Volvo is the only one with access to that software and they don't give it away cheap. I called several dealers here (in Ohio) and most of them quote me at somewhere near 500 dollars for everything. This upgrade must not be performed a lot at the shops because in most of the calls I made, the majority of the dealers were not even aware this could be done. Anyway, theres your answer. I'm probably still going to have it done as there's nothing I wouldn't do for my S70 . I'll follow up with a reply sometime whenever I get around to getting it done and actually coming up with 500 to blow for it
