Default 1999 Volvo S70 500 rpm while slowing down, then returns to normal once idle.

This has been bugging me for awhile now. Everytime I come to a stop, my engine rpm drops to 500 and then goes back to 800 once completely stopped. The car shudders for a good second or two. The car hasn't stalled out at all yet, but this is just annoying to deal with.

Any possible issues that would cause this? Vacuum leak?

had a similar issue, ended up replacing the MAF and O2 sensors, along with a tune up.

Do you think it could be the fuel filter? It's been 5 years since it was last replaced. Might be hard for the fuel to be going to the engine. I do remember saying "hmmm it must've been a bad batch of fuel" when it stopped one night randomly. I'm praying it's not the ETM going bad. If that's the case, I'm ditching this car and getting another. Can't be bothered replacing it when it's out of warranty :/

I'd start by checking for vacuum leaks, then inspect the intake for any dirt/oil etc since those are easy to do w/o investing in parts. I take it you don't have any check engine light codes going on? Roughly how many miles on the car and which model? Does the idle stabilize or does it wander at a stop light? Older models have a throttle damper which deals with this so I'd suspect the ETM may have an adjustment that can be done or needs a bit of a cleaning... but I haven't researched the the ETM's features recently.

I had similar problem - cleaning the throttle body fixed the problem on my S70.

Do you think the ETM is going bad? Might need to get an aftermarket one from XEMODEX soon.

Dunno, but in my case, a same year model vehicle, original owner and ~120K miles, removing the body throttle and thoroughly cleaning, fixed the issue. I'm sure there are ways to test the ETM.
