2000 S70 Auto Climate Control - No power?
I own a 2000 non Turbo S70 that has the auto climate control that is not functioning.
I tried to search and found simular posts and sort of understand that there is a known issue with this thing but, not one with the same symptoms that I am experiencing.
Yesterday everything was functioning just fine. My wife was driving it and made a stop at a store, and when she came back and started the car, no A/C. There are no lights functioning on the climate control at all, the blower motor does not function, the compressor clutch does engage and the fuses are all good and check 12v on each side. I checked every fuse I could find just to ensure that something wasn't mislabeled.
I then pulled the radio and pushed the climate control unit out and unplugged it. I then tried to test each of the pins on both of the connectors for any sign of power with the ignition on and motor running and struck out.
I would expect to find a power lead in there somewhere but, didn't find anything. Am I chasing my tail and headed toward a dead end looking for power to one of those plugs?
Any help on any sort of debug suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg

RE: 2000 S70 Auto Climate Control - No power?
I took one relay out of the socket that was marked air condition compressor and when I did the compressor clutch disengaged and remained that way until I plugged it back in and it then engaged. So if the relay is only for the compressor, it appears to be functional.
When I had the module out, I smelled for burnt componenets and didn't smell anything. I then disassymbled the module and looked for any visual evidence of burnt componenets on the boards and didn't see anything that looked burned or any trace that looked like it was damaged.
Is there another relay that could be checked? I am going from memory from last night, I think I recall the relay that I pulled was in slot 15 in the main fuse box. Then there were 2 fueses in the accesory fuse box that is also under the hood closer to the firewall that are for the climate control system.
Are there any others?
Thanks,
GG

Thanks for the diagrams.
They are sort of hard to see so, I am at the local library now browsing the Alldata information andit hasthe same ones plus all the connector/wiring harness information.
It appears that I am supposed to be getting power in several of the pins ranging from 1-5v and then battery power on a couple more.
I am not getting that so, that leads me to beleive that I need to follow the harness and look for a lose connection at the main contactor somewhere.
I'll keep digging and see if I can figure it out.
Thanks for the help and if you can come up with some other revelation that I may be overlooking, let me know.
Thanks,
GG

OK,
After wiggling most of the connectors on the ECC wiring harness, I now get the green flashing lights shortly after starting the car. Either that or they had always been flashing and I just didn't notice them because it takes a minute or two before the briefly flash, and do so periodically two or three additional times and thats it.
I stopped by autozone and had the ODBII port read. There was a P1671 code stored but, they didn't have information on what that means on Volvos.
Does P1671 have anything to do with this problem? I get an occasional ABS/Traction control combination of lights for no reason on occasion. So, that code might be something to do with that and not the ECC.

Nope. The A/C and the fresh air button lights illuminate for less than one second after the car is on for approximately 1 minute then repeat that sequence for 3 or 4 times and then remain off.
Still no blower, no lights or any other type change in climate functions with any manipulation of the controls.
I did a quick look for a new ecc module and that sure is a lot of money to guess at that being the issue.

re:: Don't meam to hijack this thread and sorry I am a newbee.
My blower works for a second when car starts and then AC and rec. lights flash and everything stops.
Any ideas on what it could be?
Yes! I had same problem and it turned out to be the rheostat

Thecapeman......THANKS! I never would have guessed that it could be the thermostat. I figured the thermostat regulated the anti-freeze flowing through the engine and not the blower. Any feeback welcome, I am a mechanic wannabe but from from on in reality
Cheers!

Rick,
Now that makes more sense. Miraculously yesterday everything returned to normal and the blower is continuing to blow and not stoping a few seconds after start. I will bring it to the dealer anyways to see if there is an error code. Just found out I need a bearing. $290 Canadian for the part outch.....Next time I will order the part online.
PS: You live in Cape Cod?
Thanks for the support!
