Default Mechanic says my Volvo is a GLT, but was told it's a T5 when I bought it?

Had my car in the shop for a suspension job, and the mechanic put down GLT on the invoice. When I purchased the car, the guy sold it to me as a T5. Now I'm a little worried as I have invested thousands into this car thinking it's a T5. I bought this because of the fact that the T5's can handle more power without any serious modification.

My question is how can I tell the difference between the GLT and T5. At this point I suppose it really doesn't matter as I have already replaced half the parts in the car and plan on having the engine rebuilt after winter is over.

If I did get suckered into buying a GLT when I thought I was buying a T5.... That would be pretty unfortunate mainly because the T5 is obviously the superior trim of the two.

The reason I want to know is because the motor in the T5 and GLT are different. If I do have a GLT, I would have to buy a T5 motor than have it rebuilt, rather than just having the current motor rebuilt. My plan is to run about 350 hp and the 2.4 L just can't handle that output from what I hear.

Please do not criticize me and say it's a waste of money. I'm extremely meticulous and have over 10k invested into this vehicle and plan to own it for a long time so I want to make sure everything is correct. Thank you!

Okay, I clicked "decode" and it said it was a t5 indeed.... but also said it was a manual. My car is most definitely not a manual. So what's the deal?

2.3L Turbo = T5
2.4L Turbo = GLT

Engine code would be on the sticker on the timing cover.

Emission sticker will also state if the car is a 2.4 or 2.3.

Yeah I've confirmed that this is indeed a T5, guys. I don't know why the mechanic listed this as a GLT when I specified that it is a T5. I'm proud of the fact it's a T5 and as soon as this tranny I replaced last summer goes I will swapping over to a manual

There is a few things that still confuse me with this car though. For example: on the block it says 2.2 making me think its a 2.2L which volvo didn't make any 2.2 for this model or any that I am aware of?

Also does not have T5 emblem on it, but I'm attributing that due to age making it fall off

I did call and speak to him, and was told that he misheard me when I told him what trim level the car is. I don't know how you misinterpret T5 for GLT but somehow he managed to do that which gave me quite a scare lol.

My go to mechanic is out of town for the next few weeks so I got stuck with this guy. This is the primary reason why I have only one person work on my car.

still confused about the 2.2 imprint on the top of my engine block though? Any thoughts as to what this means?

Where exactly do you see 2.2 stamped? Can you post a pic?

could it be that the 22 refers to the Volvo factory code (ie your car was built in Belgium)? Try starting the car and then opening a bottle of Stella Artois near the engine. Sip loudly to see if it changes the idle of the car.

There is also an engine code stamped on the back of the engine. Near the rear left corner, next to the turbo heat shield.
Sounds like that's a T5. The 53 in the VIN is for B5234T3 (2.3L T5 motor). That's the engine code that should be stamped on that spot.
