Default Mobile 1 oil filter? 98 s70 t5

I'm about to replace my pcv system here soon, just waiting on the kit from ipd. So I went out and bought an oil kit for after the system is redone. Well instead of doing research like I should have I purchased the mobile 1 high mileage filter along with royal purple 5w30. Now after doing some research I come to find out the filter I should be using should have a check valve in it?

Can someone tell me if this filter will be alright for use, or should I go online and buy a case of oem filters?

Also I've heard the oil pan needs to be cleaned out when the pcv system gets pretty clogged up. Any suggestions on doing this? I'd rather not drop the pan if at all possible since I don't have the tools to do so.

Thanks for your time fellas

I've always have used Mann filters bought in bulk from FCP for my 850T - and I just learned its one of the brands that has the check valve design to keep oil "up top" after shut down for faster pump up on cold starts. Interestingly, the new iterations of engines use the filter insert (and I assume no check valve?). I prefer OEM as they also maintain a correct flow pressure (some "triple cleaning action" brands can actually lower the oil pressure by restricting flow volumes) - For $4.99 per filter, why mess with success (200K+ on my 850T, owned since new, new oil every 4-5K miles = no PCV sludge...)

You probably won't have a problem with that filter, but I would get a Mann filter next time. Like mt6127 said, for $4.99, why not?

Yeah since I bought the car 7k miles ago I've done oil change about ever 3k miles. The previous owner didnt take proper care of this car and used the cheapest parts possible:/ so now I'm 6 grand deep into my beloved volvo and I'm about to replace the turbo here soon. I think I'll just return the filter to autozone and go buy one from the dealer today. Thanks guys

Sounds like my cousin's T5. The first owner took very good care of it, and after that, who knows what happened. Most recent service record was an oil change about 5 years ago. I'm guessing it got into the hands of a kid who abused the you know what out of it.

lol, same here first owner serviced it at volvo dealer ever few thousand miles! however, the guy I bought mine from was a major cheapo -_- cheap oil, cheap plugs... cheap everything. I can't blame all my problems on him though. I've drive this car extremely hard and rough since the day I bought it. Had her going 140+ several times and now I am paying the price for it... ohh well I love this car and plan on replacing anything that goes wrong with it and will drive her till the day she dies!

I've read on several forums that these cars can't go past 130- lmao, whoever thinks that could not be any more wrong. These are electronically limited to 155.

Awesome!
I don't actually own an S70, but I know the cars pretty well, and I want one. My cousin drives his pretty hard, too, and the worst problem it gave him was the heater core. He tries to "drift" it he'll tell me that he takes it up to 120 fairly regularly, and I just tell him he's nuts. I'm just waiting for him to get tired of it and sell it to me

I've never seen these cars drift...except in snow lol. But then again my e brake doesnt work. I miss being able to hit 120 no problem. my turbo stops boosting after 50-60 even after that my engine just feels weak. I'm hoping that redoing my pcv will bring back that lost power. You should tell him that constant driving like that will cost him a lot of money down the road...it's costing me tons of money and I still have to redo my brakes and suspension

We've all been telling him that. His definition of drifting is flooring it on a turn and hearing the wheels slip a little. I just love when you're going in a straight line and you hit it into kickdown...
Anyway, good luck with your car!
