Default possible 2.2 L engine instead of 2.3?

Not that this changes anything... but I was out messing around with my car yesterday and took off the spark cover plate. upon doing so I noticed between the second and third spark plug that it said 2.2 on the engine. What does this mean? is it possible that somewhere down the line the engine was pulled from this car and a 2.2 L was put in as a replacement? Does volvo even have 2.2 L engines out there?

thanks-

excluding the possibility somebody has swapped out engines on you, there should be a small plate or sticker on the firewall/cowl/hood that notes the engine code ie B5234T3 refers to the third generation 2.3L high pressure turbo design where a B5244T3 refers to the 2.4 L low pressure turbo third generation... From what I've read the S70s came with 2.0, 2.3 (HPT) 2.4 (LPT) and a 2.5L diesel - the generational changes included things like intoducing the direct coil ignition, bottom end improvements (main bolt design) for the HPTs but the basic block set up is pretty consistent.

The 2.2 does not have any relevance. Probably just an ID for the casting or something.

okay thanks for the input guys. I realize that was kind of a noob question, but with all the problems ive been through with this car in the last 5 months I just wanted to make sure everything was legit. As the days go by I'm finding more and more cheap parts and incorrect repairs that have been made on this car due to the previous owner being a cheap POS!

I have verified that this is indeed a 2.3 L engine... lol:P

thanks for your time everyone

Yeah, I don't think Volvo ever put a 2.2 in the S70. And if they did, they didn't do it for the U.S. market.
