First, thanks for the help offered to my previous question.....

Now, does anyone know how to Re-Set the "SRS - AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT" warning light on a 2000 Volvo S80?

I tried to re-set it by; Turning the ignition key to Position I, pushing and holding the trip mileage reset button, then moving the ignition key to Position II while holding the mileage reset button for about 10 seconds. The "SRS - AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT" message was replaced with the number 26, but when I re-start the car that "SRS - AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT" warning message comes back on?

I've cheked all fuses, seatbelt buckles and belts, etc. My S80 has never had an accident and the airbags are OEM (never been replaced).

Can I drive this car safely?
Will the Airbags deploy inadvertantly?
What does the [26] message mean?
Is this something I can rectify on my own?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

The Instructions I gave you were for reseting the service light not the SRS light.I said the SRS light would have to be checked with the scanner.The 26 you saw in the display was to tell you that the service light didn't reset.It should be fine for you to drive.You will have to find someone that can pull codes and reset them to clear the SRS light.You can try to find an independant shop that can do it if not you will have to go to the dealer.Also if the fault is intermitant fault after so many key cycles without seeing the fault it will reset it self.It may take a little while for that to happen.

 

I'm having the same exact problem as described by Mike above (including the code 26). Is there a way to reset this, or do I have to take it in?
Mike, do you have any updates on what was done to resolve this?
I have a 2001 S80 (not sure if there is a difference between years).

Best bet would be to have it looked at bye the dealer or an indipendant shop.

 

Yeah, I was afraid it would be something like that. Well, at least the SRS system has a 5 year unlimited mile warranty. I have it scheduled to go to the dealership on Thursday. They said that if it only needs to be reset, or that a fault is found in the SRS system, that I will not be charged.
I'll update after the service is complete.

Well, I went to the Ravenna Volvo dealership today. Let me tell you, I was actually impressed. I called the day before to make an appointment. They even had a new S40 for me to drive as a loaner. They replaced the driver side seat belt buckle cover, and scanned the codes. They found many codes stored, but none that were causing problems with the car. They cleared all the codes, and the SRS Service Message did not re-appear. No part failures were found. All in all, it cost me absolutely nothing. I'll definitely go back there for future service.

I have tried the reset method that everyone seems to be talking about (ignition position I, hold down trip reset button, turn ignition to pos II, wait for it to clear, etc. ), but all i get is a "42" appearing on the left hand message box and it goes away after about 10 seconds--then the original "emissions" message comes back.[:@] Got any other ideas on how to reset this message? or is this one that should be taken to the dealership as well for a reset? That method is only for resetting the SERVICE LIGHT.The check engine light needs to be checked by the dealer or a shop.Could be something simple or something complicated.

While having some difficulty with my Shiftlock feature on my 1999 S80, I had a friend use his computer to check the computer on my car...Turns out that my front right O2 sensor is malfunctioning. After he decides to unplug the battery and replug it in (in an attempt to reset the computer, hopefully tricking the shiftlock into giving in and releasing my key) I turn on my car to find an "SRS" warning message, along with a transmission system warning message. The transmission can wait. Until the battery was unplugged, I had recieved no such message about my Airbags. Can anyone help me with resetting, or just figuring out the problem? I don't feel safe driving it around without a functional SRS system.

You will have to find a shop to clear the codes for you.Your friend that has the computer what program was he using?Some times when the battery goes dead and gets jump started or is disconnected and then connected it messes with the computers on the car.
They will need to be cleared by a shop or the dealer.

 

The nearest Volvo Dealership is roughly an hour and a half away. Will a certified Volvo repair shop do? There is one about 15 minutes away from me, and the owner is strictly into volvos. (What equipment is needed to fix this problem?)

And I'm not sure what program it was. It was made to hook up to an OBD II computer, and he ran the check in about 10 seconds or so. It was handheld (i use the term loosely, it was pretty big) and orange, and had just one wire. I'm sorry that I cannot give more information, but I'm not very savvy with cars. Just PC's.

 

You will have to check with the Volvo certified repair shop and see if the hand held reads srs codes and trans codes.Most hand helds only read engine codes.

 

I can second Tech on that. I had to have my S80 sent into a Volvo Dealer to have the codes reset on SRS, Tranny, and Emissions (which may or may not have been the 02 sensor). Totally worth it, and if you got it at a dealership used, recently, they may cover it.
