Default After Market Stereo

I am new to this forum...

I had a stereo install place put a new Kenwood Head Unit (with a Sirius Tuner) in my 2004 S80 today.

Since the install my Airbag Light will not go off. I notice this has been brought up by others, and it is due to a software issue. I will make an appointment at the dealer next week to get this software downloaded.

My question is am I taking a risk in driving the car now? If the head unit is causing computer issues...what else could go wrong while I am driving?

Also...is it common for the climate control panel to be a little loose after an after market install? The kit they used seems to be a perfect fit...but the climate control panel seems to be easy to pop out now?

Thanks
MW

It shouldn't cause a problem from driving it.

They might have bent the clips for the climate module causing it to be loose.

Thanks...

One last thing....if I have the stereo place reverse their work and put the original stereo back....will that solve any computer issues? Or, will I still need to visit the dealer?

Thanks

The headunit has two clips that hold the top part of the climate control box. Remove the headunit and those clips are gone. Thats why it may be a little looser. Those clips can be a problem. I had to break mine in order to remove my climate control box, it would not come loose. If the bottom screws on the climate control box are tight, it should hold fine. You couldnt tell if my clips were broke unless I showed you the very slight wiggle it may do if I lift it.

You will most likely still have the SRS light.

Okay...so i will go back to the stereo joint...have them finish the install with the steering wheel controls...then have the software done at the dealer.

One last thing...is it possible the stereo issue is having an effect on the climate as well? The heat seems to be much less...hot...since the install.

Thanks again!

It shouldn't.
Maybe cycle the controls all the way each way and see if that helps.

And I'm back....

If down the road, I put the factory stereo back...will I need another software update at the dealer?

Also...the stereo place cannot find a part that will work the steering wheel controls with the new head unit. Do you know if one exists?

This is the number one reason why I have held off replacing my own radio - the inconvenience and expense of getting your new stuff to work with your old stuff.

Check out Crutchfield. Contact one of their experts before you buy. They have great customer support. Here's a link to what they have: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...=476&avf=N

And if you put the original radio back in, plan on returning to the dealer too.

I used Crutchfield for this purchase...they were great! I gave them the make, year and model...and they suggested the following. I just got back from the dealer...they removed the factory stereo via a software dowload...and they even shaved down the aftermarket face plate so that it fit perfetcly.

I am very happy...even though I have no steering wheel control for volume>

Default RE: After Market Stereo

Hello All;
I am new member, but have had my 01 s80-T6 since 02. Have all options in that I could get except the Fridge and TV (I understand were in the executive line). I hadwanted to do an aftermarket upgrade to the exisitng Unit as much out of habit as anything. Back then no one I could find would dare to touch the wire harness and there wasn't yet a crutchfield part. I read a bunch of posts here and see it is a possibility, but my question goes to the Nav system. Is there anyone who can tell me whether the have seen heardor know of a way to feed a video signal into the pop up Nav system.

Ihave always thought that would be a truly cool idea, but need to do some more research etc.... Also my HUI in dash 4 cd is busted (cd portion only).Anyone know where to send it for a fix?

Thanksto all and I appreciate the great information out here!
