Default Considering Purchasing a 2001 S80 T6 Executive... Any Thoughts

Never have had a Volvo before and came across a 2001 S80 T6 Executive with 97,000 miles.

Took it for a test drive and it drives beautifully, transmission seems to shift smoothly (never tried the manual option of the Geartronics system), steering is good, engine seems to run quietly and efficiently.

I brought it to a mechanic, said everything looks great, looks in good shape, wheels and suspension are tight.

So... what are your reviews? What are things that should be looked at? I got the dealer down to 5,100$ from 5,500$. I also put a deposit down so it's waiting for me, just wanted to do a double check.

Any advice or reviews would be greatly appreciated!

Ask if the timing belt has been changed. Thats expensive and should have been done.

See if any smoke comes out of the dip stick shaft. It may need the PCV service. Also expensive.

Aside from that if it drives tight. No engine codes. Sounds like a nice car.

well, if you have no warning lights what so ever, and you mechanic saw it , then it sounds good,

sounds like you already are buying it so if we told you all the issues would you still want it ? lol

did your mechanic lift the car and check everything physically underneath ?

Unless you know how to do the work yourself... It will cost so much to maintain. My recent repair and upcoming.. PCV trap cleaning ($350), engine mounts ($800-$1000), Engine mount top easy one ($150), minor oil leak ( a few thousands, the mechanic could not tell where), heater core ($600),.... I also did one front shock ($800).... I am considering donating mine to charity this year... I love the car but it may drive me pocket-dry. Yet I think mine does not have a big problem like other cars do....

I definately agree that this is an amazing car to drive and its very very smooth. It just gave me way way way way way too many problems, and i hope you should consider a warranty for it. Biggest common problems Ive seen in this car:

-transmission
-abs module
-throttle body recall
-mass air flow sensor (must have been replaced at least 6 times on my car

Also right around this mileage I had a few 02 sensors replaced too.
