Question Oil filter leak after 3,000 miles

I have done my own oil changes on motorcycles, boats, and cars for over 30 years. Yesterday, I was driving home and parked in my driveway. When I later went to pull the 1999 s80 into the garage I noted a trail of oil the last few feet and a pool of oil under the engine. I cleaned up the bottom and started the engine, then looked under the engine. It was leaking near the oil filter housing. I checked the timing belt for oil (none) and then went to the oil filter housing. it was tight and I had changed oil about 3,000 miles ago without loss. I took the housing off and checked the o-ring placement, condition and tightness of the housing. Everything looked and felt correct. Because I was out of ideas I changed the filter and o-ring and added two quarts. No leak.

I have never had a problem like this after so many miles. If there was a nick in the o-ring or loose housing it would show up way before 3,000 miles ( I change oil at 5,000 miles). I was lucky it leaked a few feet from home and not on the highway. I am now going to be thinking about this when I am driving high speeds.

Am I the only one that this delayed leak happen to?
