Default Overheating 1999 s80

Hi. I'm new to the forum, and looking for help. My daughter drives a 1999 s80 2.9 (not the turbo). She started going through coolant, and when we looked, there was a crack in the side of the radiator. So, we ordered an new radiator and installed it. Here's the problem. We filled the car with coolant, and a short test drive later, it starts to overheat. Refill and repeat. This time it blows the top hose off.(brand new hose) Refill and squeeze hoses to try and remove air bubbles. Overheat. The top hose starts cool and then gets hot, the bottom hose stays cooler then the top. Are we refilling this incorrectly or is there a trick to bleeding the system? We are baffled and getting very frustrated. Can anyone help?
