Default S80 computer reset

I have a 99 S80 and want to know how to clear computer messages . Every time I start the car a computer message comes up stating "engine system-fix next service". I replaced the air filter, which is what the message is a reminder of. Any ideas?

Most of the time disconnecting the battery won't work.

Any other ideas besides the battery disconnect ? How does the dealer do it ? I've supported my dealer since the car was new . But hate to pay shop hours for a item that should not take an hour to do . Thx in advance for your replys . Sometimes , being a woman you can't help thinking are they taking advantage of me ? I bought my car new and absolutely love it still .

It is storing the code in the PCM, the computer. The computer has it's own onboard battery source so it doesn't forget certain things if it loses power. Just like if you take the cord out of your computer right now and plug it in, it will still know what time it is and all the files it saved will be there. Dealer will connect a computer and communicate with the vehicle to clear the code.

Some Indipendant shops have the computers to clear the codes and are cheaper than the Dealer.

I got a code reader at Harbor Freight Tools for about $50 on sale a few months ago. It will clear codes as well as read them. Also has software identifying the codes.
