Exclamation Someone please help me (oil changing q)

HELP ME!!!

I have a 2001 Volvo S80 2.9L (non turbo edition). I am trying to replace my oil filter, but, just like everytime I try, I cannot get the oil filter case/cap off. I have tried to find one of those dish shaped tools that attach to a 3/8" drive and fit over the oil filter cap much like a socket, though no one seems to carry it in my cars size. I read somewhere that it is an 86mm cap? Can anyone confirm this, and if so, where can I buy a "socket" to fit it? Also, any other hints on how to get this off would be greatly appreciated. I have tried one of those nylon strap tools that you twist tight then attach a 1/2" drive. It ripped, followed by me throwing it somewhere in the field behind my house. Please help, and thank you.

yea those things can be tight sometimes expeciualy if the oil hasn't been changed in a good long while.

Light, you ALWAYS change the filter when you change the oil. If you don't you risk a collapsed oil filter and loss of oil pressure which could lead to engine damage.

Volvo has a special filter wrench it costs about $30. Google it.

I always use a oil filter pliers, light pressure on the plastic housing. On our S80, I use a 36mm socket (but it is different than yours).

I picked up one of those filter sockets from Ebay for < 20$ just to make sure when I take it in for oil changes they have the right tool.

Thanks guys, I bought an 86 mm 16 flute oil filter cap wrench. The one a few of you mentioned. $12.00 with shipping, got it in one day too. Oil is changed, life is good. Have a great day all.
