Hi everyone. I just bought my wife a 1999 S80 T6. The question is I need to replace the half shafts and I need to know if it is with or without the viscus clutch. How can I tell? Also, how to tell what tranny is in there as well. Is there a tag on the tranny?

The viscous coupling is located on the passenger side axle shaft. Its a big black cylinder and is probably leaking oil. Your car has the GM Hydramatic 4T65EV-GT trans. It is very prone to failure, so check the condition of the fluid.

i had to replace my viscous coupling just a few weeks ago, basically its a 3 dollar part at the dealer, you will need fluid too, early production cars had the 42mm version, later production cars had the 46mm version (or 48mm cant remember, but the larger one for sure)

dealer cannot tell by vin number so get under there and measure the outside of the outer shaft, mine was 42mm bang on so thats what i bought and it fit...
