SRS airbag service urgent

I just tried to diconnect the battery for 4 hours and it did not help. I am having the same issue with the airbag service urgent message. It started after I had some work done by a transmission shop. I know that they, at least, disconnected the Power wire under the hood and after reading some of these posts I assume they did not disconnect the negative terminal on the battery first. I have a cheap code reader that is not picking up any codes. I will call the tranny guy on Monday and see if his code reader can read a code and clear it.

Dealer SRS Airbag Message ripoff
Took my XC70 to Don Beyer Volvo in Falls Church and they diagnosed the problem for me. They said it was the main SRS sensor behind the dashboard display and that the entire display would have to be replaced.
Cost: $1,800 U.S dollars.
Suffice to say I am still looking for alternative solutions to fix the problem. That is more than it would cost to fix my transmission problem. I'll try taking it to a local shop to blank the code first, or go to another Volvo specialty shop before I lay down that much cash at the dealer.

Thanks for the link Air Force Rascal, but which AutoScanner does the Volvo S60 Airbag Reset (there's a large assortment of scanners) - is it the PPC by BSR for Volvos? Your right $190 is a bit steep but I'm sure this scanner will pay for itself in no time ;o)

That'sb a bummer when you're a kinda guy that likes to DYI for a hobby or a necessity, you find a forum that can help you get the information you need but instead you get harrassed and lectured by a senior member! Sorry to post this cuz it's off subject and it's important just to give information the poster is looking for!
Wonder if was ever a newby?

Having the same warning come on for my 2002 S60. Been scanning the forums on this site and others similar to find out what I can.
Anyone who owns a Vovlo from this era is well aware of the electrical issues these era cars have. I have read multiple stories about owners spending $1200 to $1600 to have the entire dash unit replace only to have the same message pop on a few days later.
For what my car is worth now no way I am sinking that kind of money into something that might be fixed. 162k on the car.
From hours of reading this is what I have concluded:
1) Very common computer issue when someone replaces or removes the stereo. Fits with some kind of Bluetooth kit, etc.
2) I have also seen some people saying it is an issue with senors going out in the seats. Seen people saying they had apohlstry done, seat covers etc. Sensors in the seat belt etc connector. I haven't done it yet but I am going to turn the car on and sit in each without the seat belt and see if I get the red seat belt warning.
I saw one poster suggest vacuuming very well under neath the seats where those senors are.
I also plan on using my test light to make sure all my fuses are working in proper order. My guess is that it is likely a crossed/broken wire. As when I got the initial message the gas gauge and speedometer did not work for about 4 minutes as I started driving down the road. I will update you guys with anything I find out.
Also if anyone happens to have a video on how to get into the dash for a 02 s60 or XC90 or a similar model from the same era. If you could give me a link I would greatly appreciate it.
I don't comment much on the forum here but I have read lots of the posts over the past few years. Thanks for all the info. For someone whose sole mechanical knowledge comes from YouTube and forums like this thanks very much.
Was really looking forward to getting to the 200k mark in this car. For me the warning light for the air bag is less concerning than the short time the fuel and speedometer were not working. Anyways, going to see what I can do myself. I hate going to the dealership or an independent. They always seem to be scam artists like all the other other posts I saw about need to replace the dash unit only to have the same light come on a few days later. I will update you guys in a few days to see what I can find out on my own.

Just an update to my previous post. Console cluster has been acting up. Sometimes nothing lights up when I start the car, gas gauge, mph, rpm, clock, etc. Then two minutes down the road everything magically lights up.
Glad I waited a few days before taking spending quite a bit of money trying to have someone diagnose the problem with the Airbag Urgent Alert. I am pretty sure it they are related. Did a little homework. Checkout out eBay. Looks like for about $200-250 there are some places that you can remove the console cluster and they will repair it for you.

After i ignited engine, ”SRS airbag service urgent" message staying on there. i am unwilling to go to dealership before i decide to put lots of money there. I have read above posts, great info. but anybody who has more details to clear that message would be massively appreciated! i am in Vancouver.

Update on my situation. Found on my Airbag SRS message is on because of a failure in my Dashboard Cluster (DIM). Shortly after I got the message the Fuel Gauge, RPM, etc would start acting erratic. Sometimes not light up, light up but have certain features not work. Apparently this is known to trigger the Airbag message, having the DIM fail.
Found someone on eBay that could repair the Dashboard Console for just under $200. I just got it back that issue seems to be resolved. I still have the Airbag Message. I talked to the guy who did the repair service over the phone. Told me that if I want the message removed at some point I will have to have a Volvo tech clear it up. But at least I know now what triggered it.

^^If the code is the SRS Internal Fault code, the dealer can't and won't clear that.
I had a similar situation except it ended up being the SRS module causing a short in the CAN communication lines due to water intrusion that came from the cupholder. I sent a used SRS module in with my original to Digi Controls and they swapped information over to the used one and I had it all back together and working for less than $300.

Digi Controls is a company in Canada that can clear the internal fault codes, one of the only few companies that can.....The first order of business for you is to see what SRS airbag code is coming up. If it's an "internal fault" code then the dealer will tell you it has to be replaced. This is not true however, as companies like Digi Controls can clear that code for you.

Help. Help, and more help
Hi everyone,
I am about to go crazy because of my 2002 S60 SRS Airbag light issue,
I have tracked my SRS system and scanned it several times, this does not matter, the crazy part is as follow:::: I disconnected the SRS control box, and with the right DIAGRAM I measured every Airbag resistance and all of them were reading OPEN OHMS except only one. (LEFT FRONT SIDE AIRBAG) The crazy part is:::::: The scanner is saying THE LEFT FRONT SIDE AIRBAG is open (reading too high) So home come the only airbag that is giving me resistance reading (3OHMS) is the one the scanner says is bad????
I am not sure where to go from here.. any idea? any advise would be appreciated.
Thank you all
