Default Problems with lights - left reverse light always on...

I'm having a problem with the lights on my S90. When the day running lights are on, the left reverse light stays on all the time and the flashers or turn signals do not work. When I turn the little screw on the ****, the driving lights go out and the flashers and turn signals work fine. When I turn the parking lights or head lights on, the left reverse light comes on and the turn signals and flashers do not work.

Help!!!

I took the car for a spin and I got a left turn signal error flicker when the signal was on. Then I tested the lights again when I got home and found that the right front turn signal light comes on wth the left signal. Also, the left reverse light is always on with any other lights.

Correction, it's not the left reverse light that is on, it's the turn signal light that is staying on. The reverse light is in the trunk lid.

Also, the blue relay in the drivers side trunk area behind the wheel under that small floor panel, does NOT control the blinkers or the turn signals. It only controls the tail lights and brake lights.

I pulled the head light switch and put it in my other car and everything works fine in the other car, good head light swith. I also pulled the turn signal control and took it to the other car and all was well again. Turn signal switch is fine.

So, that leads me to a question... Where in the heck is the relay that controls the turn signals? Just read on Mathews Volvo site that it's the hazard switch. It is a combination of hazard/relay. I'll try to swap that and see what happens.

Well, I did swap the switch but the problem did not follow the switch. Having the switch unpluged did cause the turn signals not work. So, now I'll be looking for some frayed/bad wires under the radiator area in the morning.

Did you change the front turn signal bulbs yet?
If not try that first.

No I did not change the bulb because it seems to be working fine. It flashes when I turn the turn signal on.

So, I decided to give it a try and WOW, it fixed the problem. The bulb was bad even though it worked.

Here is the problem: The socket contacts are pressing hard on the bulb tips. The bulb tips flaten after time and then make contact with each other. Once they make contact they short out when you turn the lights on. Below is a pic of the bad bulb end and a good one.

Fixed!!! Hurrah!!!

Thanks again the the Volvo tech(s) and the Forum! I had the same problem with "mashed contacts" on the turn signal bulbs, new bulbs fixed it! No stealer repairs!!
