Argh! Why won't this driver's door open!?
Blah, so I am trying to fix up this car to sell it and it is as if the thing knows - but doesn't want to go! Within the last week I broke the new plastic fuel door hinge I was going to put on it (ordered another), the ABS light came on, and now the driver's side door won't open from the outside. The latch won't actuate the door lock mechanism so it must be some little part that attaches to the latch but I don't know what it is. Any thoughts?
Oh and the latch on the inside of the door works just fine.

Maybe the outside door latch has broken. You will likely have to take the door panel off to check it out. http://www.atthetipwebs.com/technolo...el_removal.htm

Yea I think it is definitely a broken plastic hinge or something that only connects to the outside. I had this problem with my Trans Am and it was literally a $.60 part that kept me from opening the doors. I felt like the Dukes of Hazard b/c I would just roll down the windows, take off the T-tops and hop in lol.

Door latch won't open
I had this problem with my S90. The handle has a plastic/nylon cam attached with a roll pin. When the cam breaks the door will not open from the outside, but can be opened from the inside. I tried to find one in the parts yard, but heat is a killer on this type of part, so I ordered a replacement handle online ($35.oo, it was black plastic) I used the new cam from the replacement handle and put it onto my S90 handle, since it was painted to match the car. Easy fix and I have a new cam.

So I finally got around to this and it seems as if the outside handle is engaging the cable just fine, but it seems as if something is broken or disconnected at the lock mechanism itself. Anyone have a diagram b/c I'm reaching in there and can't really feel anything that seems out of line.

Door handle
The best thing I found for working on a Volvo door is an inspection mirror and an LED penlight. The door doesn't allow me to reach inside because of the small area, but I usually can figure out the problem with these tools. Then I get creative and use kitchen tongs, long nose pliers and even forceps! "get er dun".
