blinking dash displays when turn signal is on

I have a V40 2000 with 121000 miles. Every time when I turn on my turn signals my dashboard display (odometer) dims, on off.
What could this indicate? Bad alternator? Voltage regulator?

I would start by making sure the Alt. is charging good.

My '02 v40 has always done that and I've read from others that their cars do the same.

It's one of the 'quirks' of this 'well-engineered' car.
