I am new to this forum, and trying to decide which v40 to buy.
There are 2 options in the market I am in (in Asia): the 5 cylinder T5, 6 speed version with 213hp and 300nm, or the new drive-e 4 cylinder T5, 8 speed with 245hp and 350nm.
The outgoing 5 cylinder is being offered to me at about 15% cheaper than the new model. So that is a plus.
I have test driven both - the 5 seems to be smoother than the 4, but the 4 has the power advantage and claimed better fuel economy.
The 4 also comes with paddle shifts which the older 5 does not - not sure yet if they can be added. What I can get done to the 5, is a Heico upgrade to 230hp and 400nm - so I'm told - but not cheap to do (still overall cheaper than buying the new model though).

So, I am interested in your views on which I should go for. I know some will say price vs power, old vs new tech. etc - I guess the bottom line is whether the tested 5 cylinder with the potential power upgrade, at a lower price, good enough despite the higher consumption; or is the new economical 8 speed really worth paying more for.

I have a petrol T5, (2013 model - no paddle shift) and it very nippy, smooth and quiet and a delight to drive. Adaptive cruise control is great. The turning circle however, is terrible. Hope you are good at 3 point turns, the Queen Mary II will have a smaller turning circle. It is the one thing that I read before I purchased my car and didn't think it would be as bad as people claimed. It surprises me every time.

 

not sure of the demand for paddle shifters. I drive a VW CC with the DSG transmission (computer controlled manual ) and I find that while I can auto-stick to control shift points, the computer does it way better than I ever would - and I drove a stick for 20+ years prior. So 90% of the time I leave it in standard automatic mode and the rest I just go to sport mode...
