Default Adjust low beams

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know how to adjust the low beams (standard halogen lights) on the V50? I had the light assembly out last night and was looking for anything that looked like it was for adjustment, nothing that I could see. Help please.

My V50 low beams do not light the road well at all. When I switch on the high beams, it is like night and day, hugh difference. Does anyone else see this difference (have this problem)?

Cheers!

I believe there are two nuts or bolts you have to adjust to do so. I think Volvo made it difficult for the consumer to adjust them, so you would have to go to the dealer to do it.

However I do believe you can do it. I just don't know exactly where they are.

Also your bulbs might be ****ty too. Get some new ones like Sylvania Silverstars, which I like a lot. Or get some HIDeeeeezzzzz.

I agree with the Sylvania Silver Stars. I use them as my lights were not 'optimal'.

If they are like the S60 then there is 2 I think 5MM plastic screws that you turn to adjust.
The one on the top of the headlight for side to side might be hidden under a plastic cover.

The bulbs (Halogens) are the ones that came with the car. I since replaced them with an aftermarket HID kit but I need to adjust them. By they way for those of you who remember, I was having problems with LBF when I installed the separate fused fed HID's. I fixed the problem by adding load back onto the factory wires to fake out the computer.

Tech, I there is nothing on the exterior of the light assembly that I can see. From memory, there is only one item on the bottom (which I removed to see what it did - nothing) that is used as a bracket, other than that, I opened the assembly to see if there was anything inside. The low beam reflector assembly is rigided mounted with 3 mounting screws.

Any other ideas?

I took a look around the inside the engine compartment to see if there was anything that maybe connected to the light housing, I didn't see anything, I would have been surprised to see something. The only thing that I see is the L-shaped metal bar that slips into the sleeve on the light assembly to remove the assembly from the car.

I bet the S40 is the same as the V50 so if you get a chance to check out either that would be awesome!!

Cheers....

On a different note, it is amazing how much electronics is going into cars today. I took apart the switch for the parking, low beams, etc (I was considering running a separate control circuit to avoid the LBF problem with the HID's). There is a control board with buttons attached that are pressed by the rotating dial. I didn't want to breakout the soldering iron so I solved the LBF with the added load.

Anyway, appreciate your help!

Yes it is amazing.
Your car has like 15 or 20 computers in it running the entire car.

Been away from the site for a little while.

I found the adjustment screws/bolts. There is a white little "nipple" thing on each light assembly, attached to it is a black piece with a alan key slot (forget the size, sorry) that can be turned to adjust horizontally and vertically. It is right near the "L-shaped" metal sleeve that you pull out to remove the assembly from the car. You can see the adjusters without taking the light assembly out. This way you can adjust without having to take it out. Once you know what to look for it is obvious, but it had me stumped until that point.

Cheers....
