Default 04 V70 Won't Go In Gear

I have an 04 V70 2.5t w/auto trans. I cannot get it to go in gear. The shifter is stuck in park and will not move, therefore I am stuck. It was a little bit hard to get into gear yesterday but once I was driving it seemed to perform fine. Today it is doing nothing. Anyone had a problem like this or have an idea of what could be the issue?

You mean you can't physically shift the **** into the drive position? Or do you mean it operates as if in neurtral even if it is in the drive position? When you press on the brake, do you hear a clacking sound near the shifter ****. Not sure about Volvo's but most automatic transmissions have a solenoid that locks the shift **** into park unless the brake is depressed. You may have to take apart the cover over the shift **** to see what is going on under there.

ChrisAce, thanks for the reply. I meant that it won't physically shift into gear. You mentioned the clicking noise near the shifter when the break is pressed in. It does exactly that. Does that sound like a solinoid problem to you?

That clicking is the solenoid releasing, which should allow you to shift into drive. Looks like you are definately going to have to take off the cover over the shifter **** to see if it is stuck on something. I don't think you should have to take apart the center dash piece where the radio is, just the cover surrounding the shift ****. You may also have to get under the car, but not sure what you can see from down there. Its a dark and scary place. Have fun!
