The steering wheel isn't locked is it?

Try playing with the shifter as well.

The steering wheel is NOT locked. I tried locking it and unlocking it just in case. I also used the shift lock override to put the car into neutral, but the key still won't move past position I.

Sounds like the lock cylinder might have gone bad.

Here is where you should go next. Pop the top cover on the steering column off. The remove the 2 screw holding the lower cover on and remove. Then look on the back side of the ignition you should see the electrical part. Remove the 2 screws and remove the switch. Then see if the key moves then. If it does then the electrical part is bad. If it doesn't then the lock cylinder part is bad.

Once you remove the electrical part you might be able to get it started.Leave the key in the ignition and turned as far as you can. Then turn the electrical part with a screw driver and see if it starts. It should the Immoblizer should still read the key since it is still in the ignition. You are just bypassing the key turning it to start it.

It was the lock cylinder. Good call.

Thanks again for your insight, and sorry it took so long for me to reply.
