98 v70 non turbo shut down
Here is the deal. just fully serviced the volvo, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, cabin filter, t-belt, water pump, serp belt, tensioner, oil change. After all this car ran great for like 2 weeks. then after a short trip i got off the highway and the car just sputtered and shut down. here is the circumstances of the shut down.
I drove for 30min at 75mph, full tank of gass, got off the highway, stopped at a light, cars rpms, fluxuated from 1k, down to 400, up to 1k, then it shut off. I tried to restart it a few times, then rolled it into the gas station where it fired up and ran fine for the last 2 days.
What could caue this? fuel pump? clogeed fuel system? Any insight would be great. i planned on doint the fuel filter, just waiting for it to arive, though i heard i need a specail tool to do it. is that true?
Thanx in advance guys

RE: 98 v70 non turbo shut down
Hi All,
I have a 98 V70 non turbo also with the same type of problem. Car was running great no problems then one morning getting ready to head to work and it sputtered out and died. Initially started up great, no hint of problem, previous day no issues. After it died out, cranked, it caught, sputtered and died out. Waited 3 to 5 min and it started up again, got it home and parked it. Grabbed my 15 mpg truck and went to work. Been a few weeks and with no resolution. I did a little research (here and other Volvo sites) and apparently the fuel pump relay is an issue maybe. Replaced the relay, same problem. Starts, runs 5 min or so and sputters out. Restart right away and catches then sputters out. So I found the fuel pump, placed a vom on it and watched. Voltage stays applied up to when the car sputters out and the fuel pump continues to run up to that point. You can hear the whine of the pump and feel the fuel being pushed forward in the hose.
So I think I have ruled out the pump, what is your take? Could it be the fuel filter? Could I really have two bad fuel pump relays. I bought it from a local recycler so maybe, but I do get voltage till the car sputters and dies out. Any help you can give me will be much appreciated. I am getting eaten alive in gas with my truck. I drive 800+ miles a week.
Thanks
Bo Rogers
ps voltage was between 13.5 to 14 at the pump at the back
