Fuel Door won't open

Fuel Door won't open
So on the new 2001 V70 XC, the motorized fuel door lock seems to be jammed in the closed position. It is supposed to lock after the drivers door has been locked something like 20 minutes, and it should open as the drivers door is unlocked. Well I went to fill up today and had to manually release it from the inside after removing like 4 trim panels.
Got home and after it sat all afternoon, the door is locked shut again. I checked the fuse that the circuit is on, it's #8 in the left rear fuse box, it's fine. I was thinking of removing that fuse completely while I have the lock open, but it also operates the "Rear Electric Door System" or something like that. I don't want to lose the ability to lock my door. So does anyone have an alternate solution to fix this Fuel Door Lock?

I doubt anyone will try to steal you gas. But I had the same problem with my 850.
When I got the 850, the tab that has the hole for the locking pin was bent to the door so it was not going into the slot for the locking pin to trap it closed. So I straightened it out so it could lock with the doors. Well, about 2 months later (about 8 fill ups), the door would not open. So I pulled on it while at the gas station, then pushed and pulled on it while operating the door remote until I got it open. Once open, I operated the remote a few times to see if the pin was going in and out every time and it was. What I assumed is that the pin is easily hung out if there is some pressure on it from the door latch. So I tried to adjust the latch so it will align properly so the pin will not rub the latch (hole). The locking pin is about 1/8" in diameter and the hole in the door latch is about 1/2" so it has a large hole to hit.
Hope this helps.

My wife's 99 V70 had a similar issue with the fuel door acting flaky and not unlatching. A couple months after this started, it needed a new battery and after we swapped it out, we never had an issue. I don't think it was the battery, but more having the computer and stuff reset from being disconnected. I don't know if the switch goes directly to the motor or it is an input on the computer, but ours has worked fine since then.

I think it's electrical since my in car electric locks are out too. Made a manual latch for fuel door, removed motor all together. . But the locks in the car not working is annoying. Central lock fuse is good. But the drivers door is the only one that won't lock with key fob, I have to use key. I just received a new lock mech from dealer, once I put it in we'll see if the electric button in car works. Crossing fingers. Thanks.
