steering noise while turning creaking sound
I have a strange noise when turning the wheels at slow speeds it's a creaking clicking springy sound and it's fairly loud. The sound seems to be coming from the strut and/or springs. It's more prevalent on the pass. side. I noticed that when in park and turning the steering wheel the strut and spring seem to rotate as well (pivot around the strut nut center line) .
I have replaced the following front end components in the past month or so;
Hub/bearings
lower control arms
drive shaft and half shaft
rotors, pads
tie rods inner/outer both sides
sway bar end links
Thought it was the strut bushings- so i replaced them as well still did not solve the problem
Any advice?

RE: steering noise while turning creaking sound
Would that explain the rotation of the strut tower and spring?
Is that black disc visible from the engine compartment? Is this part of the strut assembly? Actually it doesn't matter I will just replace the whole strut the next time i have it out. Any recommendations on good struts, not looking forhigh performance, oem specs would do.
Should I replace the springs as well?

RE: steering noise while turning creaking sound
Tech,
I have things mixed up. I replaced the spring seats (black items in picture), NOT the strut mount/bearing assembly (gold).
Is this the only thing that could be causing this noise? Please see picture for further explanation.
Thanks

RE: steering noise while turning creaking sound
I put some oil at the top of the strut under the bushing , lubricating the black ring in the center of the gold plate seen in the picture above . Although not a permanent fix, it did eliminate the noise.
I guess it's a good idea to replace all the components, with exception to the spring when replacingstruts/shocks.
Your abs light; module needs to be sent out to be rebuilt it's like 100 bucks. Search this site or ebay for a link. I had mine repaired and it worked great.

RE: steering noise while turning creaking sound
I am low tech with a V70 T5 - 2003 with 59K miles. My pass. side appears to have this issue. Do I loosen the nut at the top of the strut to oil it? I have heard that there is a strong spring under that nut. Do I need to be careful not to loosen it too far?
Thanks!
Thanks!

RE: steering noise while turning creaking sound
DO NOT LOOSEN THAT CENTER NUT! The only nuts you can touch on top of the strut tower are the 3 smaller nuts, you don't need to loosen any nuts to oil the bearing. Just slowly pour/spray a little oil under that black rubber disc and let it settle for a second the pour a little more in. You don't need much, and you can use wd40 or air tool oil or even motor oil. Your just trying to lubricate the bearing.

RE: steering noise while turning creaking sound
Hi all,
I had my struts and all components besides the coil springs replaced about a week ago. Just few days I ago I noticed that my car was making a similar sound as described in this post. The car is currently backat the shop where I had the repairs made. I am awaiting to hear what the problems are. I hope it is nothing new as the struts are waranteed for life. I wll keep everyone posted as to what the outcome is. One good thing reading this post is that itsounds like it is strut related.
