Oil change at 4000 miles on new XC60 2017.
I have an off- recommendation via information panel to return to dealer for " maintenance" . Called and was told that even though VOLVO. Says change oil at 10,000 miles dealer says take to any oil change shop at 4000. And any semi synthetic oil will be fine. Then to bring to them for the VOLVO official oil change at 10,000. Would this not void the VOLVO warranty? The dealer even sent coupons for $10 Off maintenance. I am questioning this unofficial ,but from the dealer advice

You do not need to do anything. The service light comes on every 10,000 miles or 1 year. The light gets reset when the technician does the inspection when it comes off the truck. If the car sits amd gets sold 6 months later, then the light comes on due to time and not mileage. I bet that's what happened.
Semi-synthetic is not what that car uses though, so they shouldn't have told you that.

Was this for a brand new car?
My guess is, the dealer is suggesting the 4,000 mile oil change to remove metal particles now and not let them circulate through your engine for 6,000 more miles.
I don't think the dealer is trying to get more money from you since they suggested you can go to any shop to get it done and not theirs.
