Question Out Of Gas, Won't Start

I ran the wife's 2012 XC60 out of gas and now it won't start

It has good pressure at the fuel rail and will start right up with a shot of either but then dies right out.

I'm thinking whatever tells the injectors to open must be fried. Either a relay or the ECM

Any ideas before she kills me or has it towed to Volvo or both?

did you put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail or just spritz some fuel out?

Check the owners manual for the locations of the fuses for the fuel pump and injection system. There may also be two relays, one for the FI and one for the pump. Dunno how running out of gas would impact the FI system - maybe the pump scavenger or fuel filter got clogged or worked the pump to overheat the relay?

Thanks mt

I've been reading the owners manual and it's not clear on what powers the injectors. I've also been checking fuses and nothing bad so far.

Not that it matters but it's a 2013 not 2012

That's what I'm thinking maybe an overheated relay. I can't find in the owners manual what relay it is.

I couldn't find a wiring diagram online for the 2012 model but the 2010 version shows the fuel pump relay soldered into the CEM, with a fuse in the CEM (under the glovebox) - ie the fuses are user serviceable, the relay is not.

You might have burned out the fuel pump. Can you hear it prime when you turn the key?
