Default Synthetics and oil change interval

All,

I've been wondering about switching to a high grade synthetic oil such as Royal Purple or Mobile 1 for the wife's 01 XC70. Now on my 02 Jetta, I can run full synthetics for a 10,000 mile oil change interval (granted it is a diesel). If I switched to a synthetic for the XC70, could I reasonably go to a 10K oil change interval as well, or is that unreasonable? The longer interval would definitely make it more cost effective.

I've posted this over on the 850 forum as well, as if I did it with the XC70 I would do it with my son's 95 850 Turbo as well.

Thanks,

Glenn

Well I would transfer over to Full Synthetic anyways. As for changing I would go maybe 5K and see where that gets you.

With a Turbo car I really wouldn't really even go to 5,000 miles.
I would stay close to 3,000 or 3,500.

I have seen to many turbo cars do oil changes every 5,000 miles on synthetic oil and be sludged.

I agree with tech. On turbo cars, oil for lubrication is crucial. I was debating on synthetic oil myself and went against it. More importantly is changing it frequently. and for 5 bucks a quart i don't think it would be worth it.

Spot on, no more than 5000km, the Volvo hand book says turbo engine's should
have oil changed at 7500km or 4700miles intervals...
I purchased a used v702.4t, 2001, same engine as xc70
with 65,000km or 40625miles on the clock, all stamps in the book by volvo dealer..
i had problems with the oil pan o-ring seals...and have a sludging problem, last oil change i
cleared about 1 hand full of **** out of the filter housing...make sure you change the oil every 5000km or 3-3500miles or else you will end up with a sludging problem..
