Help My xc90's key is stuck & doesnt shift
ok so the problem goes as this. 1 morning i was going to move the car as normal put the key in everything goes fine, i park the car and the key wouldn't come right out. i had to wait about 10-15 mins then it finally just came out. then after this about 2 weeks pass and when i put the key in and turn it on it wouldn't shift out of park, but it would let me take the key right back out. so after having the car on for an avrg of 15 mins it would allow me to shift out of park and drive. and usually what i would have to do have carry both keys with me and lock the doors with the main key still in the ignition and use the valet key to lock the door and usually after 15-20 mins when i return the key is able to just come out but now that its getting cold out (new york city) this has not been the case. i had to do this last night and the battery died & the key is still stuck in it..
this is my nightmare ..ive seen a few ppl with the same problem but no xc90's

Any update from those who have tried this fix
I bought my 05 XC90 t5 in February of this year. When cold I have the stuck in P problem. Spraying the linkage arm for the selector seems to assist in speeding up the process for letting it shift from Park.
Anyone who tried this fix have tips on the work to be done? I'm not afraid of pulling the console out. In fact I've had to do most of that for the radio and cup holder lid fix already. I am interested in knowing how easy it was to tighten and how difficult replacing the yellow retaining clip is. And of course if it corrected this issue.

Part number I got from my St. Louis, MO USA dealer was #9181197. It is number 32 on the parts break out from page 43: Shift Control AUTO TRANS GT, AW50/51 AWD, LHD. Cost was $1.25 USD.
In all honesty though I was able to adjust the threaded rod so that the spring action worked without removing the yellow cap. My problem was the reverse of yours though. I could not exit P on cold mornings. I fixed this about a month ago and since we have had sub 20 degree F temps here and the problem is gone.
\As you're adjusting and shifting you can look at the assembly and see how it all works together. This will help make your adjustments so that you are spot on.
