Default Hitch Plate and Ball??

I've been going back and forth about OEM vs aftermarket hitch receivers for a while. I really like the look of the Volvo "tow hook" because it tucks so cleanly into the bumper and they make a cover. It also doesn't hang down below the bumper like the Draw-tite and others.

I'm ordering all the necessary parts (incase anyone wants the parts list and numbers, I'll post them below) and the only one I don't know if I need is the "Hitch Plate" and Hitch Ball. First off, I've never heard it called a hitch plate, normally would call it a ball mount and ball or something similar, but i digress.... I really can't think of a reason why I would need to order a Volvo specific set. It doesn't look like it has a drop, but the only thing I can't tell from pictures is if there's a particular length that makes this work so well.

Does anyone have any insight as to why I should spend $150 on the OEM Volvo one and not $20 on one from Amazon or Walmart? I attached a PDF of the installation instructions that has a picture of the OEM ball and plate.

Plastic cover accessory 31439147

Hitch ball 31399880
Hitch Plate (ball holder) 31373545

Amazon Amazon

I spent my $$ on this kit, only thing this kit that was a seller to me was that the electrical hook up didn't have a box. When the kit showed up, I had the wrong kit, which the CURT guys sent a replacement to me right away. Which still wasn't' the one shown, but it has been alright since I put it on. This kit did make me cut a hole for the hitch. it was straight forward. I think there was a template, or something, that made it easy.

I did have a noise on the muffler, just because at idle it vibrates more, and then the muffler, and the frame come into contact. I fixed that my hammering that portion out a little bit.

That's good to hear that there's a template that would make it easy to do. I'll be tackling this as soon as it warms up. I'm up here in the Boston area, so we're always ready for our thawing season.

I'll try to post a video or some pics of the install. I ordered everything except for the ball and ball mount (hitch plate). I plan on just using an after market ball.
