Looking at 2005 XC90 (2005)
Looking at an XC90. It's a 2005 with the 2.5T engine. Has 117k on the clock. What kind of things should I look for in the engine? I don't see any oil leaks, belts/hoses all seem to be in good shape. No blue smoke from the tailpipe and the engine runs nicely.
One thing I did notice, however, is the engine ticks almost like a valve tap but not quite. I looked at another XC90 (2004) and it sounded exactly the same (less mileage). Is that just the normal sound from that engine?
Car looks good overall but wanted to find out if there's anything major I should look for. I know I'll have a timing belt replacement along with tensioner arm/pulley to do. But the price is pretty decent.
Thanks.

Excellent year and best engine/transmission combo available.
Check the PCV vent tube that goes from the front of the engine, to the top and slides under the plastic cap on top of the engine. Stock, they were made of plastic which dry-up and break. Volvo has come up with a rubber replacement for around $40.00. This will quiet the engine some if yours is broken.
I use Castrol GTX full synthetic oil, grade 5W30. Engine sounds nice.
Enjoy your new vehicle.

I should be able to get it (if it doesn't sell) for $8kish. Seems like a decent deal.
