Exclamation XC90 - Complete Failure While Driving

A few days ago while I was driving (about 55 mph) my power steering began fighting me. The steering became extremely difficult then the car lost complete power. Fortunately, I was on a curve so it drove into the shoulder, but it was terrifying. Everything in the car failed including my hazard lights. After removing the key from the ignition, I was able to turn the car back on with no issues. I had the car towed and it has been in the shop since. The dealer was able to find multiple failure codes of numerous systems, but nothing that leads to the actually issue that caused the failure. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated!

2010 XC90 (base) with 85,000 miles.

Thank you.

Default Maybe the alternator

Has the dealer checked that the alternator is good. Had mine go bad on my 07 xc90 and all kinds of things started happening. Once the dealer replaced the alternator (and the battery, cooked the battery, $2,000 later), car ran fine except had the power system warning message. Searched the web and found a site that claimed the ECM was defective. Took mine out, sent it to them, they programmed a new one and sent it back for $775 (dealer wanted $1800). Truely a plug and play replacement.

Good luck.

You can check the alternator yourself if u have a multimeter voltage should be over 13.7 at the battery while running which means is charging ur 12volt battery. Poster above had similar situation bc he was running on the battery and once it lost its juice, essential systems like the PEM, ECM, CEM lost power causing his condition, but most likely is ur PEM or ECM if ur alternator is good, they are know for failing while driving and causing the syntoms u drescribed. Any codes?

See this CEM failure sound similar to what u described, water is know to get to them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWUlB1sksiE about 1500$ at the dealer i believe. And no u cant use a old CEM from another car bc the software is specially made for ur car. But i believe there is a company that u can send ur CEM then they clone the software to a refurbish unit and mail it back to you.

Xemodex can fix your CEM for less.
