Hi,

I am new to this forum , so I don't know if this has already been discussed but I am curious if anyone has upgraded their stock volvo headunit to something a bit more modern. I am mostly interested in upgrading to something that can support iPhone (bonus points for bluetooth compatibility).

I have a 2002 Volvo V70 (with HU-650)

Looks like a 3rd party aftermarket unit, and not sure how good they are, if they are worth the trouble and the cost.

Just curious what the options are, and what other people might have done.

I've personally had pretty good luck with "off-brand" electronics in the past, but it's a bit of a crap shoot. That is a lot of functionality for the money, though you never know how well it really interfaces with your Volvo's controls and speakers (and possibly subwoofer) until you get it.

You could just get a generic install kit and mount a single- or double-DIN in-dash unit from one of the bigger manufacturers... something like this: Volvo In-dash Receiver Kit Fits select 2001-04 models, chassis sizes S & E at Crutchfield.com

I personally like the fact that the factory radio has real ***** instead of having to dive down through a half-dozen menu items to get to the function I want to control, but I do miss having HD radio, and aux input and USB input. It would be cool to have GPS functionality in the dash, but my Droid phone does such a good job navigating that having GPS in the car is really overkill.
