https://www.volvo-forums.com/style_images/1/spacer.gifJust wondered if there is an easy fix for this issue. It doesn't stay like this all the time, sometimes it's normal with no issue. It's been going on for quite some time. Just looking to see if anyone has had or seen this and has an answer.

Thanks greatly,
David

I haven't had nor seen this but I do have a suggestion.

Contact the places which repair the DIMs and ask them if segment drop-out is a common characteristic of DIM failure.

Poorly made solder joints are the root of many of the DIM problems they fix. The intermittent nature of your fault suggests this.

I can confirm that the weirdly placed digits are a precursor to the actual DIM failing altogether. I had mine do the same thing about a year back. I think as the solder goes bad, it sends different voltages than it should through it, causing all sorts of memory issues in the computer.

well that's no good. I don't mind enough to pay the money to get it looked at, honestly Haha...I just wondered if it was a common issue with a not so complex fix. Thanks so much you all.

The fix is easy. Four t25 torx screws after popping the plastic off, one plug on the DIM itself and send it to a dim rebuild specialist. I used european electric to rebuild mine. 150$ to rebuild and ship back after you pay for shipping to their location. I just put a link on another thread like this, but here it is anyway.

My 2003 was driven without a functional dim for about an entire year, and reads 20k miles less than what it's actually at - carfax shows a mileage inconsistency and now no one wants to buy it. I would get it fixed asap if you aren't planning on running the car to the junkyard. Just keep in mind you won't be able to use a lot of computer related functions while it's being fixed.

Oh, wow. I didn't realize that would happen. I appreciate it a lot. I'll definitely look into getting this done.
