Can someone tell me how I can eliminate the angle gear. I can not find one and when I do it cost almost as much as the car ( Volvo 2002 V70 XC ) The two pinions on the angle gear are missing a couple of teeth. I live in Florida and up to this point I did not know this car was AWD. Out of the blue the car stopped and would not move forward or backwards. the wheels would not rotate at all. I am thankful that it did not happened in the High Way. I have read that I must have the casing install but then I also have read you do not have to, just connect the passenger axle in and that is it. Can someone please advice me?

 

Sure have done this many times for customer, with the 1998-2002 cars.
Remove right axle, remove angle gear, remove driveshaft.

Reinstall splined sleeve/collar gear/whatever you want to call it, Use JB weld or similar to glue it to the transmission output for the angle gear (to keep fluid from leaking)
Reinstall right axle

Drive away happy!
