Code p0089
 

it’s a 2005 xc70 so delete or move if not allowed, just figured i’d have better luck here

bought it with a p0089 code , it’s my gfs car and she doesn’t drive much, it’s due for a smog and i still haven’t gotten around to trying to fix it

it shows no actual symptoms of any fuel related issues, smooth idle, fast crank, drives great all around . tailpipes are clean so not running rich either from what i can tell

i tried replacing the fuel pressure sensor but the one i recieved was just ass backwards (bosch unit, the plug would only plug in the wrong way), i did attempt to use it and saw how terrible the car runs when that is actually failed (or in my case hooked up wrong), i put the old one back in (which is also a bosch unit , so it’s been replaced in the past by the previous owner)

i don’t want to just start tossing money at it ,may go replace the fuel filter today as that never hurts , any other ideas ?

the P0089 says the ECU is not seeing the fuel pressure changes it expected. Long list of potential causes - could be a wonky fuel pressure sensor, the pump, the fuel filter (assuming your car has an external one - not all models do) or the pump regulator or issues with the fuel lines. The prudent thing would be to have a shop with VIDA to a deeper set of diagnostics to see if the pump and pump controller test out ok and to monitor the fuel pressure real time, but since you tried with an incorrect part for the pressure sensor, I suppose you can try again with the correct part and hope for the best and go from there. Changing the filter is not a bad thing either but that's more about maintenance and is probably has long odds for fixing your issue.

I also have same code on my 2006 V70. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator (Bosch). Also replaced the fuel filter. Car idle fine but the code came back after a few hours (after deleting the code with OBD II) so I figured it’s the fuel pump. I ordered the replacement pump from FCP. I will RR the FP when the weather permits here in NorCal.

if you replace the pressure sensor and the code comes back, it may be smart to have a shop with VIDA do a deeper scan. Could be wiring, the pump or the pump control module. replacing the pump without further testing is just guessing at the cause. I'd invest in having a shop do some deeper diagnostics before installing the pump. If the diagnostics says its the pump you can do the install as planned. If the diagnostics says its the PCM, you can still return the pump to FCP.
